Let’s assume you want to make 100 dollars monthly from your investments. There are a few key numbers we are going to use. We will use the 4% rule when withdrawing funds from investing account.
It is said, that if you withdraw 4% of your investments annually, your capital will still keep growing overtime. Now that we have the numbers, let’s do the math to figure out, how much in investments you need to make 100 dollars per month.
100 * 12 / 0,04 = 30 000
100 is the amount of money you want to make monthly. 12 is the amount of months in one year, and 0,04 comes from 4% annual withdrawal rate.
If you were to withdraw 4% annually, that would be 1200 dollars in total per year. In this case, you would need 30 000 dollars’ worth of investments, to make an extra 100 dollars per month from them.
If you decide to take this path, it is important to keep in mind that past returns are not a guarantee of future returns. Investments always have risks involved, so this is not a 100% sure way to make 100 dollars every month.
Even that it is not sure, based on historical data, it should be possible. 30 000 is not an impossible amount to save up over the span of a few years. And even better, if you didn’t withdraw that 4% annually, it could grow into an even bigger amount of money.
2. Make 100 dollars monthly from YouTube
Another way to make 100 dollars monthly is from YouTube ads. There are other ways to make money on YouTube, such as affiliate links and sponsored videos, but the earnings in those vary a lot.
We will calculate, how many views you will need monthly with the average earnings per thousand views to make 100 dollars in a month. After a quick googling session, I found out that the average earnings per 1000 views from YouTube is somewhere between 3 to 5 dollars. Let’s do the math here.
- 100 / 3 * 1000 = 33 333 views monthly
- 100 / 5 * 1000 = 20 000 views monthly
In my calculations 100 comes from 100 dollars you want to earn, divided by 3 or 5 dollars per thousand views multiplied by 1000 views.
That comes down to around 33 000 views per month with a 3-dollar rate per 1000 views. If we increased that to 5 dollars, it would be 20 000 views monthly.
I think it is safe to say, that you need on average, around 20 000 to 33 000 views per month on YouTube to make those 100 dollars per month. However, it also depends on a lot of things. Such as what niche your channel is, how long your videos are, and how well they can be monetized.
YouTube can be very difficult to make money on at first, but after you get the ball rolling and keep it consistent, it is not impossible. I don’t have experience in making YouTube videos myself, but I think 20 000 monthly views is not so easy, but it can be done.
3. Make extra 100 dollars by working overtime
This is probably the simplest way to make an extra 100 monthly, if your employer has extra work for you. This depends a lot on how much your salary is, but it could take somewhere between 10 to 3 hours of extra work monthly.
Some calculations below.
- 100 / 10 = 10 hours
- 100 / 15 = 6,7 hours
- 100 / 20 = 5 hours
- 100 / 25 = 4 hours
- 100 / 30 = 3,3 hours
To make an extra 100 dollars per month by working overtime depends a lot on how much you get paid. If you get paid 10 dollars, that requires 10 dollars. If you earn twice that, the time required cuts in half.
Taxes can affect this number a lot as well. If you earn more hourly, your taxes could be higher and this way you would still have to work a little bit more. In the calculations, you can still see the impact of how much you get paid per hour. Imagine how big the difference is in a lifetime.
4. Make an extra 100 a month from a website or a blog
Next thing on my list to make an extra 100 dollars monthly, is to start a website or a blog. It can take a long time, before you will get anyone from Google to your website, but if you manage to do that, you can make some real money with it.
It depends a lot on what your website is about. Different niches pay different amounts in ad revenue. In these calculations, we will use the average, to see how many monthly visitors you would need to your website to make an extra 100 dollars.
After doing some research, I would say 10 dollars per 1000 visitors is a realistic ad revenue for a small website or a blog. That means you would need 10 000 monthly visitors for your website, to make 100 dollars per month.
That might seem like a lot of visitors, but I have good news. If you decide to grow your website even further, and it starts to gain more like 50 000 visitors per month, you can start to see some really good numbers. If you got your monetization on point, you could increase the revenue for 1000 visitors to 20 or even 30 dollars.
Starting a website is not easy. It can take as long as 8 to 12 months before your website starts to see any traffic. It also requires a lot of work to create a website big enough to get 10 000 monthly visitors, but if you feel like that could be the way for you, go ahead and give it a shot.
5. Create an online course to make 100 dollars monthly
Next up on the list is to create an online course. This one will require you to have some special knowledge about a topic people are willing to pay to learn. That could be a foreign language or online marketing. Whatever is your special skill that you know better than most people, you could make an online course of.
How many people would need to buy your course? That depends on your pricing. If you sell it for 100 dollars, one sale per month would be enough. 50 dollars equals two sales per month and 25 dollars equals 4 sales a month.
You could do some market research about how much people are charging for their courses in similar topics.
There are a lot of platforms online you can use to distribute your course. They will take their own share of the price, but I would say it is much easier than to make a completely new website from scratch and upload your course there. On top of that, you would have to get some payment method to your site as well.

You could start your relationship by giving them something for free, and then offering them your course. Build that trust, before they have to pay you anything.

Next thing on my list is to start your own business to make those 100 dollars a month. I am not saying the previous ideas couldn’t be handled as a business, but in this section, we are talking about a business in more general.
You could start a babysitting or dog-sitting business and make 100 dollars a night easily. That could be a lawn moving business for your neighborhood and that way make those 100 dollars a month. Options are unlimited, use your imagination.
The good thing about businesses is that they can be scaled. If you start something small as a side project now, it could one day become a big company that employs you full time. It could even be a workplace for your family members.
Every business started from somewhere. Making 100 dollars a month on top of your day job is a good way to start your business journey.

The last thing on the list to make 100 dollars a month is to sell your skills and expertise online. You might be a very good image editor. List your services to marketplaces like Fiverr or Upwork and you could make some extra money on the side.
This requires you to really know what you are doing and bring value to the customers. Every customer can give you a rating, and if you get bad rates, your creditability will suffer. That will lead your potential customers to just scroll through you.
There are a lot of different skills you could sell on an online marketplace. Those can for example be:
- Teaching a language
- Video or image editing
- Voice overs
- Logo design
- Website design
- Coding
- Translation
Whatever comes to mind that you can sell over the internet. There likely is someone in need of your skill, if you are good enough and can sell your expertise well enough.
